According to the definition of work, the work done by an external force in moving a heavy crate along a horizontal surface should be the same whether the force is pulling upward at a 45 degree angle or pushing downward at a 45 degree angle. In practice it is easier to pull the crate than to push it at 45 degrees. Why is this so?
