Problem 1: A two rocket is fired vertically from rest at s = 0 with the acceleration shown and the position axis s pointing upward. After 15 seconds the first stage A burns out and the second stage B ignites.

(a) Determine the acceleration of the rocket as functions of time, i.e., a(t), for durations 0<t<15 s and 15 < t < 40s, respectively.

(b) Determine the velocity and position of the rocket as functions of time, i.e., v(t), s(t), for durations 0<t<15s and 15 < t < 40s respectively.

(c) How long does it take for the rocket to obtain a speed of 150 m/s after the initial firing?

Problem 2: A toy car has an initial speed of 2 m/s at t = 0, and accelerates at a = 0.1v2 m/s2 for 3 seconds. The brakes are then applied and the car has a constant deceleration of 4 m/s2 untill it comes to rest.

(a) Determine the total time travel.

(b) Determine the total distance traveled.
