Question

Photoreceptors are such a fascinating part of the eye and there are 3 different types of opsins that absorb different wavelengths bringing about different colors. Long wavelengths correspond to the color red, medium wavelength corresponds with green cones, and a shot wavelength corresponds with blue cones. Each cone has its own characteristic absorption rate which indicates that at the level of cones, color depends on the trichromatic color theory. If we did not have the ability to see color life would be extremely bland. It would be as if we are watching a movie in black and white for the rest of our lives because only rods would work. It would also be detrimental to many systems we use in our daily life that use color such as a stop light indicating when to stop and when to go. We would have to create new systems to use in daily life and find new ways to express ourselves and differentiate our surroundings.
