1. A pump is being used to transfer water from an open tank (P1 = 0) to one having air at 75 psig (P2)above the water as shown in Fig 9-3. If 600 gal/min are being pumped, calculate the horsepower delivered by the pump to the water. Assume that the level of the surface in each tank is the same.

2. A commercially available sump pump is capable of deliver-ing 2800 gallons per hour of water through a vertical lift of 16 feet. The inlet to the pump is just below the wa-ter surface and the discharge is to the atmosphere through a 1 1/2-inch Schedule 40 pipe.

a) Calculate the power delivered by the pump to the water.

b) If the pump draws 100 horsepower, calculate its efficiency.
