Acidity Test:

Transformer oil deteriorates gradually although in service because of oxidation. The acidity in the oil causes rusting of ironing work within the tank above the oil level and the attached varnish on the windings. A recommended limit for acidity test and the action needed are given in Table.

Between 0.5 and 1.0 mg KOH/g

 

Above 1.0 mg KOH/g

 

No action needs to be taken provided the condition of oil is satisfactory in all other respects.

 

Oil should be kept under observation. Oil should be treated or discharged.
