What do the negative sign tell you about the image, Physics

Assignment Help:

Q. What do the negative sign tell you about the image?

A single lens is utilized to form an image of an actual physical object. You compute the image position i and find that it has a negative value. What do the negative sign tell you about the image? Indicate all that apply.

Feedback:

The symbol i is utilized to represent the physical quantity referred to as the image position. The complete value of i is the distance that the image is from the plane of the lens. The sign of i expresses information on whether the image is real or virtual.

If i is a negative the image is virtual. In the situation of a virtual image the light forming the image of any point of the object isn't concentrated to a point at the location of the corresponding point on the image but rather light from the point on the object diverges consequently that from the point of view of a person looking toward the object through the lens the light appears to be coming from the corresponding point on the image a point that is on the same side of the lens as the object itself.

If i is a positive, the image is a real. In the situation of a real image the light from the image of any point of the object is indeed on concentrated by the lens, passing through the lens to a point at the location of the image. The image in this case isn't the opposite side of the lens as the object.
