State about movable joystick

In another type of movable joystick, the stick is used to activate switches that cause the screen cursor to move at a constant rate in the selected direction. Eight switches, arranged in a circle, are sometimes provided, so that the stick can select any one of eight directions for cursor movement.

Pressure-sensitive joysticks have a non-movable stick (isometric joysticks). In case of pressure sensitive joystick, strain gauges are used to measure the pressure and convert it into movement of the cursor in the specified direction.
