These works are characterized by a brighter use of color and expressive brushstroke, and were meant to evoke emotion. Eugene Delacroix, an artist known for his work in the Romanticism style, has a place in the Walters collection. The work shown below, called Collision of Moorish Horsemen, is a good example of several characteristics of this type of art. The subject is a reflection of the excitement of Eastern culture.
