Define the concept of Program Management Process

As we learnt in the previous section Program?s process depends mostly on the characteristics of the product/service offered by the program, Program  planner?s thought about the processes needed to reach each  of the program?s objectives. Often it culminates in the overall program as well.

Its purpose is to bring steadiness, consistency and stability to the program management practices. It is therefore the liability of the program management department to carry  out this policy in association with department managers. The role of program manager (PM) is to manage all phases of a program/project including cost, agenda and technical performance.

The PM plays a pivotal role in managing the program management process. The PM manages programs through all stages of product development, ensures that the development design and risk reviews are conducted, documents the activities and resolves all actions.

  • Defines objectives for each program.
  • Ensures that all program personnel are informed.
  • Establish a program plan that meets the objective.
  • Create a detail schedule in combination with team members.
  • Provides direction to all team members.
  • Provide direction to all departments for the purpose of achieving program objectives.
  • Tracks progress of a project or series of it.
