Physical properties of Salicylic acid

(i) Salicylic acid is a colourless needle shaped crystalline compound.

(ii) Salicylic acid's m.p. is 156°C.

(iii) Salicylic acid is sparingly soluble in cold water although readily soluble in hot water, alcohol, ether and chloroform.

(iv) Salicylic acid is steam volatile.

(v) Salicylic acid is poisonous in nature. Though, its compounds used in medicine externally and internally as antiseptic and antipyretic.
