Q. Benefits of Device controllers?

Using device controllers for attaching I/O devices to a computer system in place of connecting them directly to system bus has subsequent benefits:

  • A device controller can be shared among many I/O devices permitting many I/O devices to be connected to system.
  • I/O devices can be easily changed or upgraded without any alteration in computer system.
  • I/O devices of manufacturers other than computer manufacturer can be easily plugged in to computer system. This offers more flexibility to users in buying I/O devices of their choice.
