Personal Development Plan For Leadership Skills

Objective of the assignment

Your objective is to use this template to devise an effective and realistic personal development plan to enable you to improve your leadership competencies over the coming three months. Choose three behaviors on which you want to improve. At least one of these must come from the Hult Leadership Development Competency Model. Up to two of the behaviors may be leadership behaviors of your own choosing.

Special instructions for the assignment

Your instructor is looking for evidence that you have been able to understand, adopt and apply material from the course. In every section of this plan, aim to make use of specific named concepts, tools or techniques that were addressed during the course. When you have relevant insights developed on the course that apply to a given section of the PDP, be sure to include these as appropriate in the text box. In particular, consider all we have learned about how people change their behavior. Write a behavioral change plan that leverages the insights you drew about changing habits and behaviors, and the specific processes for effectively improving a skill or competency. Apply these in the development plan you write for yourself.

How to write an action plan for skill development

Define clear action steps you will take to achieve this goal and be specific about when you will take them. This will help you stay accountable to make progress. Apply concepts from the course in the action plan to give you the best chance of actually changing your habits and developing your skills. When you set steps for yourself remember that small, regular steps to practice, reflect, and then practice again are the key to gradual step-by-step improvement. Remember that actively practicing the skill is what is important (not reading a book in order to increase your knowledge). When you set times and dates for these action steps, remember that the more you can concretely name a specific event, time and place when you will take a certain action, the more likely you are to take that action. For example, naming the time and date of the team meetings in which you will practice effective listening is much more effective than stating "in every meeting". Making general statements about what you will do in the future is not as effective as planning to take specific action X next Wednesday night.

Structure of Template
1. Overall reflections
2. Analyzing data and drawing conclusions
3. Action plan for behavioral change
How is leadership relevant to your professional success? Why are you seeking to improve your personal leadership impact? How can this development plan have a positive effect specifically for your professional and personal life?

When you increase your leadership capability, you increase your ability to influence people in your company, and in your society.
Explain below:
1. What are the changes in your workplace, or your community , that you would like to make if you were able to increase your leadership skills?
2. What would be the likely effects of those changes on the people involved? In other words, how would those changes impact them, both positively and negatively?

During the course we examined a case concerning the impact of CEO's ethical behavioral choices on employees, consumers, investors and other stakeholders.
Explain below:
What changes in your personal conduct or behavior might you need to make if you were to become a CEO or government minister?

2: ANALYZING DATA AND DRAWING CONCLUSIONS
During this course (and in the week following) you have collected several sources of data about your behaviour and your perspective at this specific moment in time, the start of your degree program at Hult. In this section you are required to analyse these data sources to draw overall conclusions about your level of leadership skill development and where you set your top priorities for development.
These data sources you collected include:
• Insights developed during reflection exercises while examining specific tools and concepts we covered on this course (e.g., Incremental Mindset, Deliberate Practice, Conflict Management, Teamwork, Effective Feedback, Influencing Principles, and others).
• Specific examples of strengths or improvement opportunities reflected in feedback from your teammates
• The DISC Diagnostic and any other online assessments taken during the course

1. What are the most important insights you developed about yourself during the reflection exercises that were part of the course content? Refer to concepts covered on the course where applicable.

2. Analysis of Feedback: What did you learn about yourself from the feedback you received from teammates?Did anything surprise you?

3. Giving Effective Feedback: To What extent have you developed your skill in delivering effective feedback?
What were the biggest learnings or insights for you?

Provide an example of the feedback that you delivered to a teammate that met the criteria for effective feedback and was structured using the C-A-R-D approach. Replicate the C-A-R-D structure below.

Provide an example of the most effective feedback that you received from a teammate that met the criteria for effective feedback and was structured using the C-A-R-D approach. Replicate the C-A-R-D structure below.

4. Choose three priority development areas for personal growth. Clarify why each is important to you and what motivates you to want to develop in this area.

Based on the analysis above, choose your three priority leadership skills for personal development.

At least one of these must come from the Hult Leadership Development Competency Model. Up to two of the behaviors may be leadership behaviors of your own choosing. Why you have chosen this as a priority. Motivation for development in this area.

3. ACTION PLAN FOR BEHAVIORAL CHANGE

In this section you will create an Action Plan for achieving two of the leadership development goals that you set in the last section. Refer to the PDP instruction sheet for key information about writing an action plan.
