Problem-

The self is first and foremost a collection of the beliefs that you hold about yourself. Terms such as self-concept, self-esteem, and self-knowledge are often used synonymously, although they are isolated terms that vary in meaning. Who you believe you are may be different than how others see you. Additionally, how you see yourself may even be different than how you really act. Therefore, by understanding the differences in the terms, you can begin to get a clearer picture of who you are, how you feel about yourself, and why you are what you are, from an individual and a group perspective.

Answer the following questions and give reasons for your answers:

• What are your important characteristics, and why do you consider them important?

• What are you good at, and why do you think so?

• What do you do poorly, and why do you think so?

• What kind of situations do you prefer or avoid, and why?

• Define self-concept, self-esteem, and self-knowledge.
