Social Media Strategies for Segmentation This activity is important because marketers today interact with an empowered audience that is engaged in real-time social media conversations across many digital platforms. Social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram allow businesses to target their messages to users based on data such as user demographics, interests, and geographic location. Adam has recently been hired to serve as marketing coordinator for Schaafs, a large clothing store with offices across the United States and Canada. Adam’s first task as a new hire is to look at ways that Schaafs can segment its message using social media to reach people in each of the four segmentation bases. The goal of this exercise is to select which social media tools to use when attempting to segment consumers across each of the four segmentation bases: (1) demographic, (2) geographic, (3) psychographic, and (4) behavioral.
