Bill Hurley, the Marketing Director, decided to write out the activities and then organize them later into a CPM-PERT network. His first concern was to recruit and train additional marketing staff. He felt that it would take about 5 weeks. With his expanded staff he could begin four activities simultaneously. They were: (1) complete details of the health care benefit package (about 3 weeks); (2) organize community outreach activities (about 10 weeks); (3) contact employers in the service area (about 6 weeks); and (4) develop an employer promotional package (about 3 weeks). Preparing monthly enrollment projections (about 4 weeks) could begin after activities 1 and 3 above were completed.

Following the development of the employer promotional package it could be implements (about 4 weeks). Having implemented the employer promotional package and after making the monthly enrollment projections, two activities could be started simultaneously. They are: (1) undertake employer group contract negotiations (about 8 weeks); and (2) develop employee promotional materials (about 6 weeks). Following activity 1 above, employer group contracts could be finalized (about 6 weeks) and following activity 2, the employee promotional materials could be printed (about 3 weeks).

Having completed the employer contracts and with the availability of employee promotional materials, the marketing activities to select employer groups could begin and continue to the end of the initial development period. However, at least 16 weeks were required to do a reasonable job. Two activities still remain. They are organizing of the healthcare symposium (about 16 weeks) and holding the health care symposium (about 2 weeks). Organizing the symposium cannot be started until after the community outreach activities have been organized.

1. Develop a CPM-PERT network for the marketing activities.

2. Develop Event Analysis Tabulations for each of the Networks and identify both the critical path and slack times in the networks.
