Mutually exclusive objective:
A scenario involving two characters who want the same thing or have the same objective. If one character gets what they want the other character does not.
For example: A divorced couple fights for custody of their only son. If one parent gets what they want the other does not.
Note: The less chance of a resolution the more compelling the conflict.
Instructions:
1) Watch the below video (or view the YouTube version) to learn more about this assignment.
2) Write a 3 - 5 page play that centers on two characters that share a mutually exclusive objective. (You may go over the page limit if you need)
3) After each character has made at least three different attempts towards a mutually exclusive objective allow your play to reach a climax.
4) After the climax you may end your play any way you like (a fair resolution, an unfair resolution, one character succeeds while the other fails, neither character succeeds, etc.). This is an artistic choice that is completely up to you.
