Structural mechanic-2

Given data

This course-work will include tasks that will be calculating and comparing it with the stad pro software so wil find the result of calculating the moments, deflection and bending moment diagram

This report contains two task that need to be calculated and module it in staad pro. First task ask to draw the free body diagram of section A-A. After that need to calculate and find the moments, deflection, bending moment diagram. Then, compare it with staad pro result. Second task, ask to module section 6-6 and find the same details in task one.

OBJECTIVE:
The fundamental objectives of this assignment is to demonstrate the student ability to
1. Use the knowledge of different analysis methods learned in lectures to solve the task given in this assessment
2. Use STAAD PRO software for analyse simple beams and frames and get Bending moments, deflections and reactions and compare the values with analytical methods which used to solve the same tasks
3. Use qualitative and hand written analysis to solve a range structural problem

Outcomes (as mentioned in MIG CIVL 0013):
1. Explain, evaluate and apply a range of structural analysis methods to statically determinate and indeterminate structures.
2. Critically evaluate and use computer software to analyse statically determinate and indeterminate beams and frames
3. Use qualitative and hand written analysis to solve a range structural problem

TASK:

Figure 1 shows the elevation of the show building and Figure shows the plan. The beam, column and dimensions details are given in the excel file linked below.

Each student has different values for the span and loads in the excel file given. You will select your name in the yellow cell and will see corresponding data. You will also be given an AutoCAD drawing with these details so that you can use the file and do analysis for the required frame. This assessment is divided into two tasks as mentioned below.

Figure 1: Building elevation showing column positions and beam span dimensions of an industrial building.

244_Figure1.jpg

Figure 2: Building plan showing column positions and beam span of an industrial building.

1. From the Figure. 2 shown above, consider at section 2-2 draw free body diagram of columns and beams for section 2-2. Assume EI as constant throughout, and consider the dimensions and loads given in excel file attached. The beam and column connections are fixed. Using Moment Distribution Method to calculate the following details
a. The amount of the moment at supports and at mid-span
b. The amount of the deflection at mid-span.
c. Draw bending moment diagrams.
d. Relate the values obtained from analytical method with results obtained from STAAD Pro software.
e. Discuss the behavior of structure under the applied load.

2. From the Figure. 2 shown above, consider at section B-B draw free body diagram of Frame columns and beams for section B-B. Assume EI as constant throughout, and take a uniformly distributed load and span as mentioned in excel file. The beam and column connections are fixed. Using slope deflection method to calculate the following details:

a. The amount of the moment at supports and at mid span
b. The amount of the deflection at mid-span
c. Draw bending moment diagrams.
d. Relate the values obtained from analytical method with results obtained from STAAD Pro software.
e. Discuss the behavior of structure under the applied load.

3. From the Figure. 2 shown above, consider at section 4-4 draw free body diagram of Frame columns and beams for section 4-4. Assume EI as constant throughout, and take a uniformly distributed load and span as mentioned in excel file. The beam and column connections are fixed. Using double integration method to calculate the deflection and slope at critical points.

Report Format • Follow specified spacing. Generally use 1.5 x line spacing unless advised. • Start with the title page (including your name) or student number as requested. • Include your own field sketches or photographs. It is generally better to position figures within the text rather than group them at the end of the report. • Give a sequential number to all figures (Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3, etc.) • Add a brief, informative caption to the figures. Sections of the Report and assigned mark for each section The Report should contain the following sections: • Drawing free body diagram with given data – • Analysis for selected method – • Neat Bending moment diagram – • Application STAAD Pro software for the mentioned problem – • Comparing the results obtained by analytical method with STAAD Pro software - • Discuss the behavior of structure under the applied load.
