Police Officers and Morality
Watch Law Enforcement Oath of Honor and Behavior, Ethics Focus of Police Recruit Training. Read Developing Ethical Law Enforcement Leaders: A Plan of Action and review pages 95-98 of Chapter 5 closely, as these pages offer rationalizations for police deviance and corruption as well as types of corruption and solutions for said corruption. From the videos, reading, and study you have done, address the following as they pertain to morality and ethics in a two- to three-page paper. In addition, you must also use at least two academic resources other than the required text. Resources can be found in the Ashford University Library. All sources must be properly cited.
Explain whether or not police officers should be held to a higher moral and ethical standard than the populations they serve.
Identify and discuss two theories/rationalizations presented in our text that can help to explain police corruption. Are they valid? Why or why not?
Discuss possible consequences of police corruption to the police agency, the public, and the police officer's family.
Identify and discuss at least two character traits necessary for becoming a responsible, moral law enforcement officer.
Discuss at least three strategies that can help to combat police corruption and discuss training skills needed to avoid police corruption.
The paper must be two to three pages in length (exclusive of title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least two scholarly resources in addition to the textbook to support your claims and subclaims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page.
