Difference between a persons ethnicity and their race

Before taking this class I found it a little difficult to find the difference between a person’s ethnicity and their race. I am willing to be that many people are not aware that a person’s ethnicity and race are two different things. A person’s race is based upon their physical features such as their skin color. A person’s ethnicity is based on their cultural heritage, language, customs and traditions. One of the greatest things about our country is the diversity among the many racial and ethnic groups that make up our population. The ethnic and racial composition has changed a lot over the course of our history and will continue to do so. The main reason this will change is due to immigration, both legal and illegal. As a result of the ever changing racial and ethnic composition I believe we will see a change in our immigration policies. Our lawmakers will soon realize that streamlining the immigration process will only help our country in the long run. I also believe that they will realize that something needs to be done about illegal immigration. Our cultural diversity is what makes our nation even better and what it is today.
