The flow of water is from left to right in the 1.5-m-by-1.5-m square duct shown.

Determine the force on the circular strut that extends across the duct. The upstream and downstream pressures are 400 kN/m2 and 300 kN/m', respectively, and the average velocity at the upstream section is 4 m/s.

There is no flow in the side pipe. Further, duct friction may be ignored.
