A production line operates with a mean filling rate of 16 ounces per container. Overfilling or under filling is a serious problem, and the production line should be shut down if either occurs. From past data, the standard deviation (σ) is assume to be 0.8 ounces. A quality control inspector samples 30 items every 2 hours and at that time make a decision of whether to shut down the line for adjustment.

Use α = 0.05 and the sample mean is 16.32 ounces.

a. Establish the null hypothesis (H0) and the alternate hypothesis (Ha).

b. Select the level of significance, and determine critical, ZCR value.

c. Compute the test statistic (Z) and determine the p-value.

d. Formulate a decision rule based on steps a, b, and c above.

e. Make a decision regarding the null hypothesis based on the sample information. Interpret the results of the test and state your conclusion.
