Requirement for assignment:

- Write an academic essay on one of the following five topics:

1. What are the institutional determinants and constraints of location choice when entering into a new country: An explanation for both homogeneous and heterogeneous markets.

2. How do cultural distance and cognitive distance play a role in managing the relationship between headquarter and subsidiaries?

3. What are the potential risks of doing business in a foreign country, and how to mitigate these risks?

4. Make or buy: An analysis when organizations decide to opt for collaboration rather than acquisition.

5. How international strategies are translated in the design of foreign subsidiaries: structure, boards and management responsibilities.

1) Good structure, i.e. introduction, content, conclusion and recommendations

2) Use relevant theoretical material (i.e. peer-reviewed academic articles)

3) Show different views and argumentation of the authors

4) Summarize and compare these views in relation to the topic of your essay, and provide your own opinion in the conclusion section

5) Provide recommendations and suggestions

The essay

All essays need to be written with times new roman, 12 pts, 1.5 spaced, standard margins from page. All essays should be typed and contain a bibliography of cited sources and appropriate footnotes. All ideas, quotes and/ or statistics borrowed from another author must be cited. If you did not collect the data to support your proposition, then you need to cite the authority that did.

Students are required to submit an individual essay in which they have to answer ONE of the following questions. The essay should contain a maximum of 2,500 words. More than 2,500 words leads to a 10% reduction of the mark per 250 words. Relevant literature should be used in order to answer the question. The word count excludes tables as well as the references list. Note: Below are the titles of your essay, you are not allowed to make up your own title.

1. What are the institutional determinants and constraints of location choice when entering into a new country: An explanation for both homogeneous and heterogeneous markets.

2. How do cultural distance and cognitive distance play a role in managing the relationship between headquarter and subsidiaries?

3. What are the potential risks of doing business in a foreign country, and how to mitigate these risks?

4. Make or buy: An analysis when organizations decide to opt for collaboration rather than acquisition.

5. How international strategies are translated in the design of foreign subsidiaries: structure, boards and management responsibilities.

Included are also articles which should be used in making the report. Note that not all articles should be used. Select articles regarding the assignment topic.
