Water is the working fluid in an ideal regenerative Rankine cycle with one closed feedwater heater. Steam enters the turbine at 1400 lbf/in.2 and 10008F and expands to 120 lbf/in.2, where some of the steam is extracted and diverted to the closed feedwater heater. The remaining steam expands through the second-stage turbine to the condenser pressure of 2 lbf/in.2 Condensate exiting the feedwater heater as saturated liquid at 120 lbf/in.2 undergoes a throttling process as it passes through a trap into the condenser. The feedwater leaves the heater at 1400 lbf/in.2 and a temperature equal to the saturation temperature at 120 lbf/in.2 The net power output of the cycle is 1 3 109 Btu/h.
Determine for the cycle
(a) the mass flow rate of steam entering the first stage of the turbine, in lb/h.
(b) the rate of heat transfer, in Btu/h, to the working fluid passing through the steam generator.
(c) the thermal efficiency.
This problem came from the "kinematics of particles" part holding the "Determination of the motion of a particle" section, so use the formula relating to this section of this part.
Calculate the operational availability for a power generator with 1 scheduled maintenance per 1000 hours of operation and failure rate of 0.6 failures per 1000 hours.
Water at standard atmospheric pressure and temperature fills a sealed, rigid container. If the temperature of the water is increased by 50°C, what is the pressure? Assume that the coefficients of compressibility and thermal expansion are constant

A fire truck draws water from an open constant-level reservoir through a hose of 0.2 ft2 cross section. The water is discharged from the pump through another 0.2 ft2 hose to a surge tank pressurized to 120 psig with air at the top. The pump adds 970 ..

The assembly consists of a 3-kg pulley A and 10-kg pulley B. If a 2-kg block is suspended from the cord, determine the distance the block must descend, starting from rest, in order to cause B to have an angular velocity of 6 rad> s. Neglect the m..
Consider a one-dimensional plane wall at a uniform initial temperature Ti. The wall is 10 mm thick, and has a thermal diffusivity of 6 x 10^-7 m2/s. The left face is insulated, and suddenly the right face is lowered to a temperature Ts,r.
