Reward Power: Specific power comes when a person thinks that he is able to compensate another person for its compliance and the services in provided. This is Pacific power determine the level of authority over the organization and define the power of the specific person.

Coercive Power: This is specific authority comes when a person is in believe that he can punish other persons for not being compliant towards him or his authority.

Legitimate Power: When a person believe that he has a formal right to create demand and expect that others would complete their demand according to its need, comes the power of legitimacy.

Expert Power: This is the perception that a person expert of some special things. As an example, my husband works as a manager of a company and he has some expert power because he knows the specific details about how the company operates.

Referent Power: A production manager was wanting to increase the efficiency of a case packer of a packaging line by improving the machine performance. The machine normally runs at 85% efficiency which is very good. He needed to convince the engineering team to explore the opportunity to upgrade the machine to get the efficiency over 90%. Initially, the engineering manager refused to do this due the cost of the upgrade. The production manager was able to do a calculation to show that by doing this upgrade and running the machine at 90% efficiency, the cost of upgrade will be paid back within 1 year. After seeing this, the engineering manager has agreed to procced with the upgrade proposal.
