University of California San Diego is alongside the Pacific Ocean in the La Jolla community of San Diego. The UCSD Tritons takes part in 23 NCAA Division II sports, majorly in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The school has over 400 student clubs and organizations, and a number of students are active in Greek life on campus. The freshmen are ensured on campus housing but are not to live on campus. The campus has a public museum, aquarium, and the Large High Performance Outdoor Shake Table, which is one of the biggest facilities in the country which tests structures’ ability to withstand the simulated earthquakes.
UCSD includes six undergraduate colleges and six graduate and professional schools. The School of Medicine and Jacobs School of Engineering of it are top ranked. It is designated as a university with very large research activity by the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching. The annual event unique to UCSD is Sun God Festival, which began in the year 1983, featuring daylong concerts by the well known carnival activities, musicians, vendors, and the student booths. UCSD is known for its International House also, wherein about 260 students from over 30 countries live and learn together as community. Distinguished UCSD alumni include Bill Atkinson and Guy Tribble, who created first Apple Macintosh computer, and the Mike Judge, a writer/director/producer who created the film Office Space and the TV series King of Hill.
