Tufts University is located in the Medford/Somerville area of Massachusetts, not far from Boston. Tufts have additional campuses in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood, here the health sciences program of it is located, and in the suburb of Grafton, home to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. The freshmen and sophomores are to live on campus in suites, dorms, or university owned houses. Some of the student groups are the Scuba Club; the all male a capella group; the Beelzebubs, and the Poker Society. Around two-fifths of the student body participates in study abroad programs, and about 15 percent of students are affiliated with Greek life. The official mascot of Tufts’, Jumbo the elephant, is the only school mascot listed in the Webster’s Dictionary.
Tufts is comprised of the School of Arts and Sciences; the School of Engineering, which serves undergraduate and graduate students both; and a number of graduate and professional schools. The programs included in its graduate programs are the top ranked School of Medicine and Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. The Fletcher School for international affairs and School of Dental Medicine are other notable graduate schools. The permanent art collection of Tufts’ features works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, and John Singer Sargent. Distinguished alumni include the founder of eBay Pierre Omidyar, Guster guitarist and vocalist Adam Gardner and Golden Globe-winning actor Peter Gallagher. Gallagher and Gardner both sang in the Beelzebubs.
