Georgia Tech, located in the heart of Atlanta, provides a wide range of student activities. Since the year 1961, the football team has been led onto the field at home games by the Ramblin’ Wreck, a restored in the year 1930 Model A Ford Sport Coupe. Georgia Tech has a small however vibrant Greek community. Freshmen are provided housing, but are not required to live on campus. Additionally to its campuses in the Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia Tech have campuses in Singapore, Ireland, France, Costa Rica, and Shanghai.
Georgia Tech has six colleges. Its highly ranked graduate schools include the College of Engineering and College of Management. Georgia Tech can be classified by Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a university with very high research activity. The distinguished alumni include comedian Jeff Foxworthy, baseball player Nomar Garciaparra and founder of The Masters golf tournament Bobby Jones. John Heisman was Georgia Tech’s first full-time football coach, and Heisman Memorial Trophy was named to honor him. The newspaper of the school, "The Whistle," is named for steam whistle in Tech Tower which blows every hour and each time the Yellow Jackets score the touchdown.
