Emory University is located in the suburb of Druid Hills near downtown Atlanta. The first and second year students are to live on campus, but a majority of students opts to be on campus for all the four years. Around 25 percent of students participate in Volunteer Emory, an organization which oversees community service activities. Student Programming Council organizes the events and performances all through the year and has brought entertainers and musicians such as Sean Kingston, Guster and Tracy Morgan, to campus in past years. The Emory Eagles contains about 20 NCAA Division III varsity teams and are well known for their successful swimming and diving team. Additionally to varsity athletics, all students are to take 4 courses in physical education. There is a flourishing Greek community at Emory with a number of fraternity and sorority chapters.
Emory is divided into nine schools and colleges, four of which provide the undergraduates and graduates. The Emory’s graduate programs comprises of the highly ranked School of Law, Goizueta Business School, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, School of Medicine, and Rollins School of Public Health. Dooley’s Week, a tradition which takes place every year, is famous for Dooley, a skeleton and Lord of Misrule who remains steeped in the Emory legend. The former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu and physician and CNN chief health correspondent Sanjay Gupta, have all taught at Emory.
