University of Westminster
History
•The University of Westminster was named with the approval of Privy Council in the year 1992. The University was established in London's Regent Street in the year 1838 as the original Polytechnic, focusing on scientific discovery and innovation.
•It was re-launched by philanthropist Quintin Hogg in the year 1882 and in 1970 was renamed as the Polytechnic of Central London (PCL).
Location and transport
•The three campuses of University out of four are based in central London, with good transport links.
•The leafy Harrow Campus is having tube, rail and bus links. From Northwick Park tube station, Baker Street is nearly 20 minute journey.
Research standards
•Westminster was ranked 70 out of 106 in the recent research assessment.
•Several courses have a strong work focus, and these skills are included in a number of degrees.
Academic strengths
•Architecture, Media, Languages and Subjects allied to Medicine, Electronic Engineering, Psychology, Construction and Surveying, English.
•Westminster provides the largest range of languages of any British university.
Student facilities, including library and computing
•When you join the University you will have approach to all four of our libraries – the two of them have 24-hour opening during the academic year. You will have an Academic Liaison Librarian who has responsibility for your field of study and who works closely with your lecturers to ensure that the recommended materials are available.
•You will have approach to the University's library collection online by means of Library Search which lets you find information in both print and reserve items, electronic formats, extend loans and more. Our collection includes more than 20,000 e-books, nearly 30,000 e-journals, and 230 databases.
