History
•The university traces its roots back to Woolwich Polytechnic, Britain's second polytechnic, opened in the year 1890.
•University status awarded in the year 1992.
Location and transport
•The main campus is located in Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, designed by Sir Christopher Wren - just 10 minutes from central London by train.
•The Avery Hill campus is set in 35 hectares of parkland. Half is set around a Victorian mansion the other comprises two new buildings.
•The Medway is a shared campus with University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, located in Edwardian listed buildings in Chatham Maritime.
Teaching standards
•Students are to take advantage from 17 new lecturers at the University.
Students' union
•The students at University also take advantage from the services of joint students' union for all at the shared campus.
Sport
•Greenwich won the womens' and mens' boat races both on the River Medway.
Notable alumni
•Nobel Prize winner Charles Kao for his extra ordinary work on fiber optic technology.
