SMART Goals Assignment

For this assignment, you will be writing about your personal, educational, and career goals. SMART goal setting is an instrument used by businesses and people to set goals and objectives.

S - Specific

M- Measurable

A - Achievable

R - Realistic

T - Timely

You need to write at least one paragraph for each goal: personal, educational, and career goals.  Your goals cannot be the same - for example your personal goal cannot be the same as your educational goal.  For each goal, you must include the SMART elements as described in detail below.  You need to type this assignment in Word, using 12-point Times New Roman font and double space your lines.

For each goal, be sure to include these SMART elements:

  • Specific: State your goal and explain the specifics of that goal in detail. This is the what, why, and how of the goal. Be specific - for example, instead of setting a goal that you will lose weight set a more specific goal to lose so many inches in your waist.
  • Measurable: Establish concrete criteria for measuring your progress. When people are able to measure their progress, they are able to stay on track. How will you know when you have reached this goal?
  • Achievable: Explain how you plan on achieving this goal. Include in your discussion the resources you may need or the people you may need to help you achieve this goal. Explain any obstacles that you may have to overcome and the possible solutions to these obstacles.
  • Realistic: Explain the benefits or significance in your life for achieving this goal. Devise a plan or way of reaching this goal that is realistic. For example, if you are a sweet eater, it may be unrealistic to say that you will never eat sweets again. However, to say that you will eat a piece of fruit each day instead of eating a candy bar every day is a bit more realistic.
  • Timely: How long do you anticipate this goal taking you to accomplish? What is your target date?
