The American Revolution
For this paper, you will read the contents of two chapters from David A. Copeland's Debating the Issues in Colonial Newspapers: Primary Documents on Events of the Period (available through Ebrary via the Ashford University Library) related to the Imperial Crisis preceding the War for Independence (choose from among Chapters 16 through 28). While reading, focus on the primary sources in the chapter-that is, the newspaper articles themselves, not Copeland's summary or description of them.
Write a paper that analyzes the colonists' attitudes toward British rule in the 1760s and 1770s, and how those attitudes changed during the course of the Imperial Crisis from 1765 to 1775. Use the primary source documents to give specific examples of these attitudes, and assess them in light of your reading of the text and the secondary source.
