In some experiments I have been performing upon the inheritance of eye color in Drosophila, I have identified a new autosomal recessive mutation which results in the eye color being very dark, rather than the red color of normal wild-type eyes. I named this gene claret (symbol: ca).
The X-linked white mutation, when homozygous or hemizygous for the mutant allele, shows epistasis with claret, such that homozygotes for the recessive white-eye mutation cannot be assessed for their phenotype with respect to claret. What would be the expected phenotypic ratios in the F1 and F2 of a cross of a pure-breeding claret female (wild-type at the white locus) to a pure-breeding white-eyed male (wild-type at the claret locus) ?
Widespread resistance of malarial parasite to drugs like chloroquine has prompted attempts to develop a malarial vaccine to combat malaria. Explain why is it difficult to develop an effective malaria vaccine?
Which of the terms best charcterizes this patient's peripeheral edma fluid?

Describe the structure of the utricle and saccule and explain how linear acceleration results in stimulation of the hair cells within these organs.
A novel drug has been developed to boost white blood cell production in sick patients. However, drug has serious side effects and it is estimated that it should only be used if WBC concentration reduced to 2,000 cells per microliter.
He lacked the proper instruments for determining Na+ concentrations, but was rather certain that no other major ions were present in the ECF and ICF. Can you calculate either concentration for him? (Show all calculations)
DNA replication in early Drosophila embryos occurs about every 5 minutes. The Drosophila genome contains approximately 1.8 X 108 base pairs.
Explain how penetrance and expressivity can affect the expression of an allele and how epigenetic phenomena affect the observed pattern of inheritance.
How can you find the actual duration from the relative duration? Say the relative duration was 44% and you had to find the actual duration in minutes.
What are the characteristics of the cervical region of the vertebral column in amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals?
Albinism is an autosomal recessive disease. Dimples are autosomal and dominant to no dimples. A normal woman with no dimples marries a man normal man with dimples.
What is the explanation for the fact the most cells are small and have cell membranes with many convolutions.
