Understanding my Business and Technical Writing prompt

writing and informal investigaive report on "standard business practices or important trends in your field of interest and draw conlcusions as to what these trends mean for, or represent in, your field." However, I am struggling to flly understand the prompt. I am pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and plan to be in the automotive branch. Accroding the the prompt I am suppose to write about trends and business practices in my field but I dont know what I am supposed to be looking for. Money? Job outlook? what a typical day is? and then how to I tie that into what it means for my field?
