Samuel is a 33 year old Russian immigrant to the United States who lives in a small town in Ohio. He is meeting with a female counselor to discuss employment opportunities. At the beginning of the interview, while talking about work, Sam said that a person who speaks poor English has no chance of advancement in his current job. Later, while discussing his childhood, he said that he never had any of the advantages of his older brothers, who were bigger and stronger than he. As the session was ending, he said that he was sure that the woman clinician did not like him because he was a man. How would you describe the underlying theme of this interview?
