Given is the prompt:
The paper will cover a current event that has happened in the Western World but not in the U.S. in the last six weeks .
Find 2 articles (from reputable albeit biased sources, i.e NY Times, BBC, Al-Jazeera, etc.) describing this event.
One of the articles must be from the country being reported on.
PAPER: Write a 2-page double-spaced paper with a minimum of 500 words. Citations may use any approved formatting style (MLA, APA, etc.). Your grade will be determined by your ability to do each of the following in your paper:
- Summarize the event you are covering based on the articles you have read.
- Bring in topics from class to show your ability to apply the themes to an external situation. Explain how the article relates to at least 2 of the topics from the first half of the class (globalization, population, geopolitics, culture and economy).
- What are the common ideas covered by the two articles and what are differences in how those ideas are presented?
- What biases are revealed between the different accounts of the event? Use quotes to show evidence of your statements.
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the different approaches?
Hint: The articles should be woven together throughout the body of the paper. DO NOT simply summarize the two articles.
