Should we improve voter turnout in the United States? If so, how?
Voting is fundamental to a democratic government. After all, it is the most common way in which citizens express their political preference. However, in a country where voter registration and voting is self initiated, not all citizens will vote and many choose not to participate for a number of reasons.
Why don't more Americans vote? Should the federal government seek to increase voter turnout in the United States? Why or why not? If so, what do you propose?
In the past, presumed Democratic party presidential nominee Hillary Clinton spoke about the need for federal voting law reform. In the fall of 2014, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), proposed the idea of Democracy Day, a federal election holiday. However, these ideas, like many federal reform ideas in the past, were met with skepticism by some.
