Assignment 1 Background

Many large organisations experience difficulty in maintaining a security aware consciousness with its employees. Universities are in many respects not that different structurally to large corporate organisations. One important feature of large academic institutions is that they have open facilities where is it difficult if not almost impossible to readily validate a person being in and around campuses. Having non-validated people accessing an organisation's facilities presents security risks.

Following recent discussions with those responsible for maintaining security within organisations exposed to the challenges created by being open to people coming and going from their facilities you have been tasked with investigating how best to develop and to maintain a security aware consciousness of staff and students of an academic organisation using smart technologies. You may choose any organisation as the basis for your investigation but choosing Curtin University may be an easy option.

Assignment 1 leads directly into Assignment 2 and is intended to provide a solid foundation of the topic. This matter will be discussing in class and laboratory sessions.

Your Task

You are required to read and understand the requirements of Assignment 2. You are required to undertake a full investigation of the current situation for the deployment of tools and techniques adopted by large organisations conducting a review of literature.

You are required to submit an assessment of the current situation based on your literature review. Your review appraisal should include preliminary basic analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats); reported policy considerations; published information of software tools, certifications, techniques, and methods.
