2. Consider an electric part with two components in series (component A and componentB). Component A has a reliability of 88%, while component B has a reliability of 94%. Itis known that if the part fails, it will cost the company $1000.

a) (4 points) What is the system reliability and the expected failure cost per part?

b) (8 points) You are trying to reduce the expected failure cost per part, and youhave three improvement options. Find the system reliability and total(improvement plus failure) cost per part for each of the three options, and thensuggest which of the three (if any) improvements you would recommend. (Roundall reliability calculations to 4 decimals) (16 points)

i. Improvement1: Add an 80% reliable backup for Component A. Thebackup costs $50 per part.

ii. Improvement 2: Add a 90% reliable backup for Component B. The backupcosts $50 per part.

iii. Improvement 3: Add a backup for Component A and add a backup forComponent B. Backups have same reliabilities and costs as inImprovements 1 & 2.
