1. A calorie is the amount of heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius. (Heat is proportional to the change in Temperature) The calorie is equal to 4.2 Joules. The food Calorie is 1000 times bigger (a kilocalorie).

A 50 kg person eats a 200 Calorie (200 kilocalorie) candy bar. Assuming all of this energy is available in the muscles for work, how high can the person climb with this energy ?

2. If you purchased the same amount of energy as in problem 4 in the form of electricity from PECO, what would it cost ? (1 kilowatt hour = $.18)
