Health Care Evolution Table

Complete the Heath Care Evolution Table, linked in the Resources below, in order to develop a visual reference of the changes and patterns in Western health care throughout time. Write no more than a few phrases or brief sentences in each table cell. Note important activities, events, inventions, or other developments for each health care topic given (by row), in each time period given (by column). Then use the table to compare and contrast the health care topics across the time periods.

In order to complete this assignment, you will need to find answers from outside sources. For the purposes of this particular assignment, It is not necessary to conduct exhaustive research, or to support every statement with concrete references. Do not spend too much time on research. Instead, focus on understanding the general developments across history. If you have particular knowledge of a certain time period, you may be able to draw on it. However, do not make unfounded guesses. You should be able to draw sufficient information for the table by conducting a superficial Internet search.

You might be able to find a few resources that provide answers for several topic areas if you base your search on the historical periods (the columns). Try combining the time period with the specific topic as your search terms. Choose credible Internet resources and keep track of them for your reference list.

Be sure to complete the entire assignment, including all of the following steps:

1. Begin by completing all of the following rows for the first four (historical) columns of the table.

o The primary causes of death.

o Life expectancy.

o Primary prevention.

o Tertiary prevention.

o Physical environment.

o Social and emotional environment.

o Health care providers.

o Medical setting.

o Payment systems.

o Food supply.

o Government system.

o Any other relevant information.

2. You can probably complete most of the Contemporary Period column of the table based on your acquired cultural knowledge. For the purposes of this assignment, focus on modern Western standards, rather than conditions worldwide.

3. As you fill in the table, notice how health care beliefs and practices have changed over time. Based on the trends and patterns you see, project what you think health care will be like in the future, in regard to each of the topic areas.

4. Once you have completed the table, use the space below it to provide one to two paragraphs describing what strikes you about your findings. How have Western health care beliefs and practices changed over time? Are all of the changes positive improvements?

5. List relevant references in APA format.
