Using continuity Correction. There are many situations in which a normal distribution can be used as a good approximation to a random variable that has only discrete values. In such cases, we can use this continuity correction: Represent each whole number by the interval extending from 0.5 below the number to 0.5 above it. Assume that IQ scores are all whole numbers having a distribution that is approximately normal with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15.
a. Without using any correction for continuity, find the probability of randomly selecting someone with an IQ score greater than 105?
b. Using the correction for continuity, find the probability of randomly selecting someone with an IQ score greater than 105?
Conditional probabilities of the indicators conditional on future profitability are P(G80,000) = .1; P(G 100,000) = .2; P(G120,000) = .6; P(G140,000) = .3. Should Dollar purchase that forecast?

If four students are to be randomly selected from this group, find the probability that exactly two undergraduates will be among the four chosen.
What standard deviation (within 0.001 inch) minimizes the annual cost of producuign elevator rails. You do not need to try standard deviations in excess of 0.02 inches.
A doctor believes that the standard deviation of systolic blood pressure is 450. A random sample of 24 patients found a standard deviation of 520. Assume the variable is normally distributed and = 0.01. What are the critical values?
