Of the 200 respondents who were between the ages of 36 and 50, 82 got their news primarily from newspapers. Of the 200 respondents who were above age 50, 104 got their news primarily from newspapers.
a) Construct a 2 X 2 contingency table.
b) Is there evidence of a significant difference in the proportion who get their news primarily from newspapers between those 36 to 50 years old and those above 50 years old? (use α = 0.05)
c) Determine the P-value in (a) and interpret the meaning
d) We're learning the χ2-test to for testing if there is evidence that two population proportions differ. As mentioned in the text, there is also an equivalent two-sided z-test for this. Use software to generate the z-statistic for comparing two proportions. Then verify that your χ2-stat from Part (a) is the square of the z-stat (give or taking rounding), and that both statistics have the same p-values.
