Two reversible power cycles are arranged in series. The first cycle receives energy by heat transfer from a hot reservoir at temperature TH and rejects energy by heat transfer to a reservoir at an intermediate temperature TH. The second cycle receives energy by heat transfer from the reservoir at temperature Tand rejects energy by heat transfer to a cold reservoir at temperature TC , T.

(a) Obtain an expression for the thermal  efficiency  of  a single reversible power cycle operating between hot and cold reservoirs at TH and TC, respectively, in terms of the thermal efficiencies of the two cycles.

(b) Obtain an expression for the intermediate temperature

(b) If QH 5 10.5 kW, QC 5 8.75 kW, and TC 5 08C, determine TH, in 8C.

(c) If the coefficient of performance is 10 and TH 5 278C, determine TC, in 8C.
