The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion.

At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Wednesday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Wednesday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation.

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each week.

In the twentieth century, there were several art movements and ideologies. For this assignment, research romanticism or postmodernism. Describe the major characteristics of the movement highlighting these aspects:

•artists popular in the movement
•works of art
•cultural, political, and/or social events that impacted the art
In your post, include an analysis of the movement that answers these questions:

•How does the art from this movement affect design in the twenty-first century?
•How does knowledge of these artists, movements, and ideologies affect how you design your products in the twenty-first century?
In your own words, please post a response to the Discussion Board and comment on other postings. You will be graded on the quality of your postings.

Instructor Comments: DB4: The timeline of art history is divided into eras and stylistic trends and developments. This week you are to research Romanticism and Post Modernism, two very important periods in the history of art and design. You only need to choose ONE of the eras ot write about

HINT: Analyze the stylist trends and characteristics of each era. How are they different? In the chapter on Egyptian art you evaluated defining characteristics of Egyptian art. This time you need to research and write about the defining characteristics of each of these eras. Find important art that indicates this stylistic trends. Who were the important artists of the time period?

Feel free to visit the many websites that I listed in the Welcome to VCDD290 announcement posted to this course home page on the first week of class. Do not use retail sites that sell posters or Wikipedia as these are not reliable college resources. Visit www.artlex.com or www.arthistory.net for more help. You are required to comply with APA style guidelines for in text citation and a list of references, formatted correctly.
