1. Reflective piece on an ethical or social issue around information technology, or working in information technology that you feeling strongly about or are interested in (750 words, 15%)
a. This should be relevant to you and written from your point of view. I want to know what you think.
b. This piece should be written using "I" language. e.g. "I feel that, this seems to me to be". This is different to academic language used in most assessments.
c. Be prepared to discuss your initial choice of topic in Week 2.
d. This piece can be submitted for early feedback in Week 4.
2. From your reading of the literature (readings and text book, plus other papers you find in your research) prepare a report in which you choose the two (2) of what you believe to be the most important social, ethical or legal issues in information technology or working in IT today (2000 words)
a. You need to introduce your topics and provide detailed justifications for your choice. Include any impact, scale, unknowns etc. that may be relevant.
b. This is an academic report and needs to be referenced correctly using the Harvard system.
c. Be prepared to discuss your choice of issues in Week 6.
d. This piece can be submitted for early feedback in Week 8.
3. "technology today makes cheating easier for university students" - discuss this statement in the context of your own understanding and experiences at La Trobe, as well as through reference to the literature (text, readings, journal articles), and any other reading you have done (trade journals, previous lecture slides etc.). Provide recommendations for the University. (2250 words)
a. This piece should apply the findings and theories from the literature to the real world context of which you are a part.
b. You should include some alternative ways of looking at the issue using at least three (3) ethical theories.
c. You need to provide some recommendations as to how some of the issues you raise could be addressed by the University.
d. It needs to be appropriately referenced using the Harvard system.
e. Be prepared to discuss a draft of your paper in Week 11.
