Topic: If you know a language other than English, present on the similarities and differences (phonologically, morphologically, syntactically) between English and that other language.
Your final project for the class is a paper and presentation related to a language topic of your choice. These papers should incorporate current research (at least 6-8 sources) on a language topic of your choice. In these papers, you do not necessarily need to make an argument (although they are welcomed) but you do need to show that you are familiar with the topic, and that you have incorporated a variety of current sources on the topic. Thus, the papers can be explanatory synthesis papers (where you research a topic and use that research to explain what the field says about an issue), or they can be argumentative synthesis papers (where you research a topic and use that research to support your particular point of view on an issue.)
The topics for the papers should be current, relevant, and interesting to you. There is a wide range of topics related to the field, so please try to find something that you will enjoy researching and writing about. Below I have listed possible areas of research, to give you some ideas, but feel free to suggest topics unrelated to these areas as well.
You may work in groups of up to 2 (in fact, I encourage working in groups). Your papers should be 7-9 pages long, typed, double-spaced, MLA formatted, with a reference page.
Potential Topics:
