A 50-mm-thick air gap separates two horizontal metal plates that form the top surface of an industrial furnace. The bottom plate is at Th = 200°C and the top plate is at Te = 50°C. The plant operator wishes to provide insulation between the plates to minimize heat loss. The relatively hot temperatures preclude use of foamed or felt insulation materials. Evacuated insulation materials cannot be used due to the harsh industrial environment and their expense. A young engineer suggests that equally spaced, extremely thin horizontal sheets of aluminum foil may be inserted in the gap to eliminate natural convection and minimize heat loss through the air gap.
(a) Determine the convective heat flux across the gap when no insulation is in place.
(b) Determine the minimum number of foil sheets that must be inserted in the gap to eliminate free convection.
(c) Determine the conduction heat flux across the air gap with the foil sheets in place.
First draw the transmit con-stellation and the receive constellation with ideal phase tracking and sampling. Note:they are obviously the same constellations. Now, assume that receiver synchronization is off by a phase angle.
An LVDT with associated signal conditioning will be used to measure work-piece motion from -20 to +20 cm. The static transfer function is 2.5 mV/mm. The output will be interfaced to a computer via an ADC.
a. build a k-map and obtain a simplified sum-of-products expressionfor F. It is not necessary to derive or show the truth table for F.b. Implement the function using exaclty four 2-input NOr gates. Donot use complemented inputs
A plane circular disk of radius 0.25m rotates at a speed of 200 rad/s about an axis through the center of the disk perpendicular to the plane of the disk. There is a uniform magnetic flux B = 1 Tesla parallel to the axis of rotation.
Fins are used to enhance the cooling of an object. Fins are manufactured in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and for a mass-product, it may be beneficial to optimize the shape of the fin. find the dimensions of the fin that achieve a maximum
SSB has an advantage over AM with respect to efficiency and power gain. Why, then, is AM commercial broadcast being replaced with SSB transmission
determine the initial condition on the capacitor voltage if you assume the Vc(0)=20V, determine the capacitor voltage at t=0.75s assuming Vc(0)=20V, determine the power at the 7ohm resistor.
To digitally manipulate information we must encode it using binary numbers. Consider an encoding for playing cards. There are 52 cards in a deck and they are divided into four suits with values from 1 to 13 (an Ace is 1, Jack is 11, Queen is 12, King..
