You are new to the crisis intervention field. You have been asked to interview a 15-year-old boy. He recently had an explosive argument with his parents over his girlfriend, poor grades at school, and a recent run in with the police. Most of what you are hearing is not uncommon or unusual behavior for a teen, but you need to connect with this client. Keep in mind that you do not want to come across sounding just like another parental figure, and the teen has probably heard the expression, "Well, when I was your age…" over 100 times. Using your developmental crisis intervention skills, what are one or two clinically appropriate responses or validations that you will use with this client? Explain why your responses are appropriate. Be specific. Give examples.
