Digital Animation
Project : Motion Graphics
Motion graphics can use a combination of media including type (text), still images, video, and audio to create moving graphic design. Commonly used in title sequences, advertisements and broadcast television, motion graphics are becoming ubiquitous in our visual culture as more screens (including digital signage and displays) are integrated into our environment
Overview:
Each student will choose a piece of text or audio (an excerpt of a poem, a speech or a song) with its accompanying text with which to work. This text/audio will be the inspiration for the concept of the piece.
For unity, simplicity of design and clarity of concept, students will use media (audio, type, still images, video and graphics) created by the student or manipulated expressly for use in this project.
When acquiring other media elements, whether creating original elements or modifying appropriated media from other sources, students will follow a motif as set up by the text. The use of multiple media elements should enhance, augment or even change the meaning of the audible text as well as creating a dynamic environment in which the type will exist in the graphic "world" you will create as a part of this animation.
Take extra consideration for the visual display (font, size, color, kerning, tracking, leading, etc.) of the text since it will be a key element of the design and the central element of the concept
The final piece will be a 2D or 3D animation using Adobe After Effects software that will effectively utilize the techniques addressed in this project.
Specifications:
Size: 1920 x 1080
fps: 30
Length: minimum 30 seconds
The following techniques will be addressed in this project:
Using keyframes to animate objects
Alpha Channel, Chroma key/color key
Applying effects that are appropriate to the concept of the project 3-D Compositing, working with x, y & z axis
Creating and animating virtual cameras and lighting
Working with audio (mixing and editing)
